BOATING WORLD AT 2012 BILLFISH CLASSIC

You stiIl have a chance to enter the very popular 2012 Billfish Classic taking place in Richards Bay next month. Registration on February Tuesday 21st is followed by four days fishing from Wednesday to Saturday the 25th – finishing off with a very festive prize giving that evening.
This SADSAA competition formerly known as the “Black Watch” is a Full Release Billfish Tournament open to all South African and International anglers. The rules are in line with international standards and the event has been accepted as one of the qualifiers for the IGFA World Championships.
While this prestigious tournament is more about winning a trophy than anything - for catching and releasing a marlin - monetary prizes as well as sponsored prizes are on offer and Boating World will be sponsoring a Gift Hamper this year.
Derrick Levy says several Riviera owners who have boats moored in the area are expected to be part of the starting contingent of around 80 boats - all hoping to be part of the winning line-up.
Zululand’s largest town comes alive with hundreds of eager anglers and visitors pouring into the area to enjoy the fishing and other activities which take place around the Richards Bay Ski-Boat Club.
There’s an opening and a closing function and a mid tournament get-together and the Club Bar is where everyone congregates when the boats come to shore in the afternoon. Excitement mounts as anglers share tales about the fishing and talk tactics for the day ahead.
Visitors can expect very high temperatures (35ºC – 40ºC is not uncommon) in Richards Bay’s sub-tropical climate with high humidity and a high UV index – so be warned and take the necessary sun-protection precautions.
