ENJOYING “MOONSTRUCK” CONCERT WITH BOATING WORLD ON FAIRLINE TARGA 38 MOTOR YACHT

11 Mar 2013

It’s become a tradition for Boating World’s Derrick and Suzanne to invite a number of guests on board the fabulous Fairline Targa 38 for a festive summer’s evening – celebrating one of Cape Town’s most popular outdoor music extravaganzas.

Their excited party of 10 friends met at 5pm - at the company’s moorings in Granger Bay - and set off for Clifton’s picturesque 4th beach where the annual Moonstruck Concert was being held.  Typical of the Mother City in February, the sun was still shining but a pleasant breeze came up to cool the fading hours of day - a stunning time for a cruise.

Half an hour after cruising and viewing a beautiful ketch they dropped anchor in peaceful waters off Clifton with the majestic 12 Apostles  mountain in the background. It was not long before a crowd of other boats had joined them offshore  - in full view of the beach which was rapidly filling up with hundreds  families and friends all geared for fun.

Picnic baskets brimming with mouth watering snacks and refreshments were soon unpacked as the crowd settled in to enjoy the sunset - accompanied by a live Solid Gold Session Band playing classical songs from yesteryear.

And it certainly was a breath-taking affair… to be out at sea on board the luxurious Fairline Targa 38, enjoying beautiful snacks, smoothly washed down with champagne while being serenaded with memorable music. This was a particularly special occasion for one of the guests who was also celebrating her birthday.

As darkness fell, twinkling lights lit up the beach as the crowd enthusiastically waved glow sticks in time to the music.  These were bought in support of the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) which does so much each year to protect those at sea.

Hours passed all too quickly with the live band playing on the open beach emporium and it was time to head back home – and the Fairline party reluctantly left Clifton with the happy sound of laughter and foot-tapping tunes resonating through the evening air.

The Fairline Targa 38 is the perfect craft for an outing like this with her comfortable wrap-around seating in the large open-plan cockpit and plush saloon accommodating up to 12 people. Food is easily served from the well-equipped galley inside and the cockpit bar unit with barbecue griddle is great for braais.

Taking full advantage of their luxurious surroundings, the very relaxed group soon found themselves back at the quayside in Granger Bay for a few more snacks and drinks. The perfect ending to a perfect day.
