Often referred to as the “Oscars“ of yachting, the event reaches an international audience of several million sailing enthusiasts, boat owners and industry executives.
Today the awards are considered to be the most important, influential and most widely communicated boatbuilding prize worldwide. European Power Boat and Yacht of the Year finalists are judged on performance, comfort, construction quality, price-performance ratio, design and unique technical features are the characteristics assessed by the international jury.
This year’s finalist’s sees Boating World’s represented brands again ready to claim this much sought-after trophy.
Here are the 2019 finalists and why they have been shortlisted.
2019 Multihull of the Year
Finalist - Fountaine Pajot 42 Astréa
In the quest to become the world’s leading multihull builder, Fountaine Pajot are renewing their program at high pace. With the launch of the Astréa 42 this year, which already is proving to be in high demand, thus making it an ideal candidate for the European Multihull of the year for 2019. Following in the wake of the Saona 47, Astréa 42 also feature inverted bows and the new signature coach roof design. More importantly, however, the French yard continues to improve design and build quality, thus offering more comfort and better ease-of-use, an excellent combination for this coveted award.
2019 European Power Boat of Year category - Length up to 35 feet
Finalist - Jeanneau Merry Fisher 1095
Boats in this class have a focus on “Vacation on water” and “family suitability”. Boats in this category are often used for summer vacations in the classical sense, that’s why the arrangements of space and the distribution of rooms on the Jeanneau Merry Fisher 1095 are very relevant.
2019 European Power Boat of Year category - Length up to 45 feet
Seaworthiness as well as range are new factors that have been added to this category for 2019. Boats in this category have to be suited for longer distances, navigating across open water or traveling near the coast. The Jeanneau NC 37 features like driving behaviour, safety and range, will have a big impact on the valuation of the judges.
2019 European Power Boat of Year category - Length 45 foot and above
In the biggest boat class, considerations like “life on the water”, or the opportunity to spend multiple weeks traveling on board with several people, are taking into account. The Azimut Atlantis 51 arrangements of space and the distribution of rooms on the different decks, together with the performance of the boat play a huge role in this category.
