LOWRANCE AMAZES CLIENTS WITH THE AMAZING DOWNSCAN SHOT OF A PLANE UNDERWATER - TAKEN WITH A HDS-5 FISHFINDER/GPS UNIT

Divers will be intrigued by a new site which is being developed in the Black Sea off the coast of North Eastern Bulgaria. An aeroplane has purposely been submerged to eventually become a reef to attract marine life and scuba divers to the area - which will have a positive spin-off on their tourist industry.

This amazing downscan screen shot taken from a Lowrance HDS-5 fishfinder/GPS unit with Structure scan, was recorded during the sinking of the Tupoliv-154 in about 70ft of water. The plane was once the private jet of former Bulgarian Communist ruler Todor Zhivkov. His private yacht was previously purchased for cruises on the Danube River.

The 1971 Soviet-made aircraft, which was stripped of her engines and interior to make an accessible artificial reef, is the largest plane underwater in the world. This is a fitting resting place for the majestic craft which has been grounded since 1999 but in her heyday carried Communist leaders such as Fidel Castro.

Now she will attract people from all walks of life from the simply curious to experienced divers and the plane will be used as a dive site for training divers.

The new site is located just north of Bulgaria’s popular summer holiday spot Varna, near the resort town of St. Konstantin and Elena.

The Lowrance HDS-5 which is the smallest of the HDS family of fishfinder/ GPS combination units is popular for general fishing and particularly among the bass fishing fraternity. The built-in Broadband Sounder offers high-definition fish finding with exceptional target separation capabilities.

The Structure Scan function is an optional add-on to the HDS range and as can be seen in this visual is excellent for finding structure on the sea floor.
