BOATING WORLD TEAM GET QUALITY LOWRANCE PRODUCT TRAINING.

26 Apr 2013

Always keeping up-to-date with technology, Boating World’s Derrick, Greg and Craig recently spent invaluable time in refresher training on the latest products available from Lowrance South Africa.

They met highly skilled technical manager John Minnie at the permanent moorings of the impressive Lowrance Demonstrator Ace Glider 750 - next to Boating World’s office at Durban Marina.

First up was a quick demonstration of the unique Airberth Lift system (comfortable resting pad for this well-kitted skiboat) which is really easy to use and makes the whole boating experience much more pleasant.

Being raised right out of the water, it was obvious that the boat would not require anti-fouling – a great time saver. Just one quick step and they were on board and ready to go.

Unfortunately the weather did not oblige that day and the party was restricted to the waters of the harbour. They were really impressed with the two extremely quiet super-charged 250HP Mercury Verado outboards – ideal for reaching the fishing grounds quickly.

Focussing on the HDS Touch Screen units on board with Broadband and built-in Structure Scan, John gave hands-on training on the many different features designed to maximize fishing. He also showed off the new Afrikaans language option which has proved an exceptional hit among local buyers.

Derrick was particularly interested in the Ace Glider’s HDS-9 unit with built-in Structure Scan and especially the video input port feature which is ideal for any camera with a PAL feed.

For example one can connect the new infra-red, mini-camera (for HDS-12 Touch and HDS-9 Touch units) – ideal for use in low-light conditions. Derrick says the Micro Dome Camera is great for inspecting big boat engine compartments and monitoring the engines.

Cameras can be placed in strategic spots such as the cockpit – to cover the transom area while reversing and monitor the fishing action.

The Platinum Plus mapping charts for offshore users were also of great interest to these three avid fishermen. Additional contour lines on these charts highlight drop-offs where pelagic fish traditionally hide out.
