A brand new year brings with it the exciting prospect of innovative new concepts and products from boat builders around the world – and 2014 is no exception! A host of international shows have been earmarked on the annual boating calendar which offer boaters the opportunity to inspect the latest and best on offer.

Boating World has tracked some of the major shows where we know you can get up close and personal with Australia’s magnificent Riviera Sport Fishers, London’s Fairline Cruisers, Sunreef Yachts and a host of other luxurious sailing and motorized craft! Now you can plan your trips either locally or overseas, to coincide with some of these exciting events.

While the London Boat show has already come and gone (diarize for next year - January 9th – 12th), many of the stunning boats and must-have accessories, electronics and services displayed can also be seen at the Miami Boat Show next month (February 13th – 17th).  Head for the three massive designated sites at Miami’s Beach Convention Center, Miami marina at Bayside and the Sea Isle Marina and Yachting Center.

The Discover Boating Center will provide all the information needed to choose a new boat and will answer boating questions. Everyone will enjoy the seminars being run throughout the weekend covering a myriad of boating topics.

Riviera will show off their stunning new 50 Enclosed Flybridge, the 43 Open Flybridge, 53 Enclosed Flybridge, 445 SUV, 565 SUV, 5000 Sport Yacht, Belize 54 Daybridge and Belize 54 Sedan. Fairline boats will feature an impressive selection of  six stunning Squadron and Targa cruisers including the spectacular new Targa 48 OPEN  making her US show debut.

Our next stop of choice is the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show and Riviera Festival in May (22nd – 25th) - which will be bursting with new attractions and reasons to attend. Early bird tickets with discounts are now available online.

Super yachts, sailing and motorized yachts, kayaks, boating equipment and the latest in marine technology will be on display with loads of related activities to keep visitors entertained. The much-loved Women on Water program will return.  The increasing role of women in the marine industry is acknowledged with all sorts of action from seminars to fashion parades and skipper training aimed at women.

The Festival of Boating is a registration only event for Riviera owners and luxury powerboat enthusiasts where every model available is on display at their adjoining Coomera factory. There are also all sorts of activities for the whole family. Budding master chefs can cook up a storm at the Master BBQ Challenge and The Riv Kids Skipper Program is always a hit with pint sized skippers.

And of course our very own Durban International Boat & Lifestyle Show takes place in July (18th – 20th) at Durban Marina during the winter school holiday season, when the city is at its balmy best. You’ll find boats on the moorings and gazebos along the boardwalk, a big accessories/water toys marquee on the grass and even a beer garden.

Among others,  Boating World will again feature a selection of Riviera Sport Yachts at their on-water stand, as well as the popular Airberth Boat Lift system which the sales team will demonstrate throughout the weekend.

Local manufacturers will present their finest products from sailing to inflatable boats, fishing boats to cruisers, wakeboard and waterski towboats, electronics and accessories Interesting talks, sailing regattas and “rubber duck” races will also keep things interesting.

Australia’s premier boat show the Sydney International Boat Show comes up in July (31st- August 4th). Six halls of undercover displays as well as a specially built marina in Cockle Bay in Darling Harbor can accommodate up to 300 large vessels. Apart from all the boats, items of interest include fishing clinics, fashion parades, classic and historic boats and much more. Look out for Riviera’s stand which will undoubtedly impress.

Back to South Africa – those who couldn’t get to the coast in July can see everything and much more at the Johannesburg Boat & Bike Show in August (8th – 10th). The NASREC exhibition centre plays host to this popular show which boasts the biggest selection of boats and bikes undercover - as well as outdoor exhibits. Cable wakeboarding competitions are held on-site which make for great spectator viewing and the huge range of locally-built craft and imported Sports Fishers and Cruisers will wow visitors.

Then it’s on to France’s premier boat show at Cannes (Sept 9th – 14th) where Riviera, Fairline and Sunreef craft proudly line up alongside umpteen beautiful boats from medium to large manufacturers from around the world. These include Italy, Britain, Australia, France, China and many more.

Boating World’s Derrick says the sheer volume of stunning craft on display makes this one of the most impressive shows around. Over 500 Sailing Yachts, Cruisers and Super Yachts (over 100-footers) including Fairline, Riviera and Sunreef are perfectly displayed in their own specially demarcated areas.

From there it’s just a short trip to the UK, to take in the Southampton Boat Show (September 12th – 21st).  Fairline’s amazing on-water stand will be one of around 600 exhibitors from 22 countries who will present their top-quality products. Fairline traditionally use this showcase for British-manufactured boats to debut new cruisers so some impressive options are likely to be up for viewing!

Back home South African boats will have their last chance to view the prospects for summer at the Cape Town International Boat Show (Oct 10th – 12th) in the Mother City. Boating World’s stand on-the-water at the V&A waterfront will feature luxurious models from their imported Riviera Sport Fisher and Fairline cruiser ranges as well their unique Airberth boat lift system and Pierplas Docking facility.

There’s certainly no shortage of exciting boat shows coming up this year – so do yourself a favour and visit some of them if you can. You’ll be able to climb aboard some of the magnificent craft on show for closer inspection and the chance to see more models in both the Riviera and Fairline ranges in particular. Show dates may change.
