SPECTACULAR EVENING OF LIGHTED BOATS IN CAPE TOWN
09 Nov 2015
The Boating World team took part in a magical evening on the water recently – joining other boaters for the first ever Lighted Boat Parade in Cape Town harbour. Twinkling lights reflecting in the swells were a breathtaking sight as the flotilla of about 30 boats sailed along together.
The excited Boating World party of 14 set off from the moorings at The Cape Grace Hotel, in the gorgeous Fairline Targa, to join this enchanting cruise – which marked the start of the first South African Ocean Festival.
The waters sparkled as the boats, all beautifully decorated with lights, floated along in unison – following a designated route in the harbour and lighting up their path wherever they went.
After completing a few circuits, they finally came to rest at Quay 4 at the V&A Waterfront – where spectators had gathered to watch this spectacle!
This dramatic display showed how “light carriers” bring light into the harbour - just as the early shipman and their vessels did. Once the craft reached their destination, all the lights would go on in the villages.
Boating World’s sales consultant Greg says the Fairline Targa 48 was the perfect choice for an evening like this, with everyone enjoying her luxurious comfort and style. To celebrate the occasion, they had a delicious selection of finger food and Champagne on board and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the festive atmosphere.
Even though the wind was up, everyone was well protected in the enclosed cockpit area and nothing could stop them revelling in the occasion. Music drifted across the water as the award winning local Beatenberg group kicked off the festivities with an exciting, live performance from a vessel moored at the quayside.
Soon it was time to head back to the Targa 48’s moorings, where the merriment continued until it was time to find a suitable venue to watch the Springboks in action against Argentina!
