KEEPING FISHING IN THE FAMILY OFF THE KZN COAST

27 Jul 2011

Once hooked – always hooked!  It’s true to say there are some things one never forgets and the thrill of the catch – big or small – never leaves you!

Growing up in a boating family, being Derrick Levy’s sister and married to an avid angler (with a fishing mad son) - it’s not surprising that Val Alice from Durban knows all about the rush of the strike and landing those fish successfully.

“Somehow it’s like riding a bicycle - even if you haven’t gone out for a long time you just pick up where you left off and the excitement of the first strike always gets your adrenalin pumping.” She said.

Val and her husband Barry have spent many hours at sea on their Cat in search of the “Big One” catching loads of respectable-sized Dorado in the process.

On a recent trip off the Bluff, Val caught this 5kg Bonita using a bay rod with a 5kg line – and all the while managing to keep her hat on and her wits about her!
