LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

03 Sep 2012

Boating World’s Derrick Levy was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement award in recognition of Lifetime commitment to the South African Boating Industry - presented at a cocktail evening held at the new Johannesburg Boat Show recently.

He and four other retail and boat building legends were heralded by their peers as outstanding key players in boating and highlighted for their outstanding contribution to the industry over the years.

Exhibitors and the press paid tribute to Derrick who flew up from Cape Town, Ronnie Arenson (formerly Waterworld) who came from Australia, Peter Lindenberg (formerly Lindenberg Marine) Don Jarratt (Austral Marine – Angler Boats) from Durban and Leon Prinsloo (Raven Marine) still operating in Gauteng.

Derrick has had a lifetime of watersport, representing South Africa in Ski Racing (competing in all major international tournaments) and winning the Italian Grand Prix on Lake Como. He also represented the country in Barefoot Skiing and Boat Racing.

As a forty-year industry veteran his specialised boating knowledge and expertise ensures the best possible advice for any boater and particularly Boating World’s prospective buyers.

Derrick is a qualified skipper for motor yachts and boats under one hundred tons, invaluable as a retailer and broker of new and pre-owned motor yachts and mid-size cruisers.

In conversation, many marine dealers acknowledged Derrick and his fellow awardees were for their business prowess, dedication and commitment to furthering boating as a top choice for leisure time activity involving the whole family and friends.

The new Johannesburg Boat Show proved to be a great success filled with new products, services and loads of action and even the move to the show venue south of the city did not deter the crowds of visitors.

A fitting platform from which to honour these five well-known pillars in the boating industry – all of whom spent many years laying foundations in anticipation of a great future.
